DRESS REHEARSAL INFORMATION
South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center
South Milwaukee High School
901 15th Avenue
DRESS REHEARSAL MAY 30TH
All Dancers must be at the theater by 4:45 p.m. Please use the stage door entrance. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. We will begin promptly at 5:00 p.m. We need to begin on time in order to finish by 10:00. Dancers should arrive with the correct make-up and hairstyle for their first dance. Dancers must wear a cover-up at all times over their costumes, with the exception of when they are on stage. Dancers and their parents should report to the theater, find a seat in the theater and wait for further instructions
Dressing rooms will have a list on each door indicating which dancers are in THAT dressing room. Boys will use the Men’s bathroom backstage as their dressing room. You will be instructed as to when to report to the dressing rooms at 5:00. Be sure you are in the theater at 5:00 p.m. so you can receive instructions for that evening.
We will be going through the entire program at the dress rehearsal. The dancers may sit quietly in the theater and watch the other dancers only when they are finished performing their dances. All Dancers must be in the dressing rooms if they are still performing so they may be lined up prior to entering the stage to dance. Dancer, you may bring blankets to sit on and games to play while you are waiting for your dance to be called. You may also bring water bottles filled with water only (no soda or juice – it stains!) and non-messy snacks. Dancers will not be allowed to leave the dressing rooms unless they notify the door supervisor. We do not want dancers roaming the halls – we need to know where every dancer is at all times.
Parents, you may stay with your child in the dressing rooms or watch in the audience, however, your dancers must be dressed and ready for their dances. PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY AND ALL COSTUME CHANGES. We do not have dressers backstage.
Because this is a dress rehearsal, dancer MUST BE IN FULL COSTUME. This means the appropriate shoes, tights, headpiece, etc. Again, whenever dancers are in costume, cover-ups must be worn to prevent damage to the costume. Be sure to have plenty of bobby pins to secure headpieces so they do not fall off during the performance. Be sure all drawstrings are tucked into ballet shoes and double knot all tied shoes. AGAIN, PARENTS YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL COSTUME CHANGES FOR YOUR DANCER DURING THE DRESS REHEARSAL AND SHOWCASE.
You will be allowed to video tape the dress rehearsal only!! NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY DURING THE DRESS REHEARSAL OR THE SHOWCASE. This is dangerous and very distracting to the dancers on stage.
SHOWCASE PROCEDURES
MAY 31ST
CALL FOR ALL DANCERS: 6:00 P.M.
SOUTH MILWAUKEE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
All dancers should enter through the stage door and report directly to their designated dressing room NO LATER THAN 6:00 P.M. Stage door will be open at 6:00 p.m. The Curtain will go up promptly at 7:00 p.m.
We will be following the same procedure for lining up dances as we did for the dress rehearsal. The order of the dances will be the same as it was for the dress rehearsal.
Dancers will not be allowed to leave their dressing rooms without informing the door supervisor.
Small dancers will be escorted to the bathrooms. Dancers should bring blankets, games, water –no food please-the total time of the Showcase will be approximately 2 ½ hours, dancers should be able to last without the need for food.
Parents, you will be responsible for all costume changes during the showcase.
If your dancer has a dance in the first half of the show and another dance after intermission, please use the intermission time to help them make this change. Any other costume changes-you will have to remain backstage to help your dancer or appoint someone to be backstage to help them. It is very, very distracting to the performers on stage and audience members to have people leaving during a performance.
Dancers are NOT allowed to sit in the theater during the Showcase-they are to remain in the dressing rooms until the end of the Showcase, THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS!!!
NO GUESTS ARE ALLOWED BACKSTAGE DURING THE PERFORMANCE OR DURING THE INTERMISSION BREAK.
MEN ARE NOT ALLOWED BACKSTAGE!
There will be volunteers backstage to check lipstick, shoe ties etc…before the dancers enter the stage area; however these volunteers will not have time to help with costume changes.
At the finish of the Showcase, parents should meet their dancer(s) in their designated dressing room. You are responsible for your area after both the dress rehearsal and the Showcase. Please clean up your area before you leave.
Video Cameras will not be allowed in the theater during the Showcase. A professional video company will be taping the show. If you are found with a video camera you will be asked to surrender it until the end of the show.
NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY DURING THE PERFORMANCE.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
Please do not allow your dancer to play in their costumes. I suggest that they are hung in a place where they will not become damaged. Do not use an iron on any sections of these costumes; most of these fabrics will melt if an iron is placed on them. I suggest steaming them.
- NO JEWELRY, UNLESS INDICATED ON COSTUME SHEET.
- NO NAIL POLISH.
**Keep at least 2 pairs of good tights aside for the Showcase, do not allow your dancer to wear these tights for class. You should have a back-up pair of tights in case of an accident.
The dancers have been working very hard on their dances and are very proud of their accomplishments, so…………..SELL THOSE TICKETS!!!!!!! We want to fill the theater to show our support for our dancers. Tickets may be ordered via the order form at the studio.
I realize there are a lot of do’s and don’ts in this letter, but I’m sure we all want the Showcase to be a success and to run smoothly. With everyone’s cooperation our dancers will be a “Big Hit”!! If you have any questions or concerns, please call the studio. Thank you and here’s to a great show!!
Debbie and Staff
P.S. I am still looking for volunteers for backstage help for both the dress rehearsal and Showcase.
